Ghosts.Kaidan (怪談) is a Japanese word consisting of two kanji: 怪 (kai) meaning "strange, mysterious, rare or bewitching apparition" and 談 (dan) meaning "talk" or "recited narrative." In its broadest sense, kaidan refers to any ghost or horror story, but it has an old-fashioned ring to it that carries the connotation of Edo period Japanese folktales.

The term is no longer as widely used in Japanese as it once was: J-Horror books and films such as Ju-on and Ring would more likely be labelled by the katakana horā (ホラー, horā? "horror") or the standard Japanese kowai hanashi (怖い話, kowai hanashi? "scary story"). Kaidan is only used if the author/director wishes to specifically bring an old fashioned air into the story.

After a scary accident a ghost was caught on camera!!!

Scary! A Spirit, human like figure, caught on camera. After a scary accident we started recording and it seems the guy was driving drunk and the passanger got mad. The truck ended up going into a ditch, and a second car arrived. At first I thought the video would be about a car accident and fight, but while looking over the video a couple of times I spotted something. Watch the video to find out!! CREEPIEST VIDEO: Ghost in Jail of Bodmin, Cornwall

One of our real ghost encounters videos was captured in Bodmin, Cornwall.


Bodmin Jail is located on Berrycoombe Road in Bodmin and was opened as a county prison in 1776. It is a favorite of paranormal investigators due to its history and the grisly excutions that occurred there, the last of which was held in 1902. It is of historical significance and is currently undertaking restoration.
One of our visitors, John H. from Plymouth, Devon, submitted his ghost video to us. When we requested more info about his submission, this is what he said:
"I was told to write more about my story...well we ended up in Bodmin Jail as a day out. Me, my sister and my friend enjoy visiting old places. We've also been to Berry Pomroy Castle and the Jamaica Inn and also have an interest in the paranormal.
"So as always, I took my camera as I do on trips and we show up at Bodmin Jail and check head around to the actual prison block. Half of it says 'No Access' so we didn't go in there (until our next trip). In the full film version, I am shown filming each cell individually, and I also pass the camera over to my friend to do some filming. Once I get the camera back, I head into a cell on my own, which is a dark one. So I was a little bit creeped out.
"This is where the footage that you see begins, I believe. Some crows or ravens start queeking which I admit makes me jump, so I move out of the cell, and head over to my sister and my mate. Just as we are walking out, not even looking in the screen of the camera, I point it through a cell window, and just walk out of the prison door, I didn't even see (what looks like) the ghost until I watched the footage through a good two or three times.
"It was quite a shock as my whole family agrees it looks like a vicar [priest], and as it was a jail where many people were executed by hanging, a priest would have been present to perform the last rights.
"Anyway thanks for your interest in my story, hope to hear from you."

A Mysterious Person

I come from Batangas City in the Philippines and am nearing my 40th birthday and throughout my life I have had several experiences, some not as scary as others. There are many widespread haunted stories in this country and I have been witness to some strange and unexplainable things. One such event happened while spending the night at my friends house. We were 11-years-old at the time. We had been told countless numbers of times by her parents to quiet down and go to bed. When Becky and I finally were able to get into bed, her on a top bunk, me on the bottom, we did some talking and were drifting off to sleep when we both heard footsteps outside of her bedroom.

We were afraid it was her father checking up on us so we both closed our eyes and pretended to be sleeping. We heard the door to her bedroom open and felt a draft. There was a very pleasant smell which neither one of us could identify. As we laid there with our eyes closed tight, both of us felt a warm breath on our cheeks and a blanket was placed over each of us.

After the person left we were able to open our eyes. We did not think anything of it until the morning when we talked to Becky’s parents who both told us they did not come into the room. When we told them the story they asked to see the blankets, so we brought them out. Becky’s mother became somewhat pale and told us she had never seen the blankets before. Someone wanted us to be warm and made sure we were taken care of. To this day we have no idea who this person was.

My Haunted House

Hi I come from Philippines and I have many stories to tell. To start with ,I was never one who believed in ghosts in the past. People used to say at night, you have to watch where you go because they might follow people around and worse back to your home, I never believe that until one day my best friend came to my house and something happened.

By the way, my house used to be a very old house and it’s been said that entities also live here by some people. Ghosts or dwende*, and my cousin even told me that he saw something at strange at night there before, two times actually.

Anyway, when my best friend was at my house that time, she said she needed to pee so I led her to the bathroom which is on the 1st floor. Shortly after she went in about 2 mins later, she dash out of the bathroom looking very pale and scared. She told me “May multo ng babae sa banyo nio.. mahaba ung hair.. nakaputi!” (There’s a ghost of a lady with long hair wearing white dress in your bathroom.)

I asked her “Nakaihi ka ba?” (Did you get a chance to pee?) [Ed. Ha, ha!]

Then she said “Umurong na ihi ko ayoko na!” (I don’t wanna pee anymore.)

Apparently, she wasn’t the only one who saw that ghost in our bathroom. My cousin’s friend also saw it and how I know it is true? Because they had the exact same description. For several days in school, my best friend kept telling me that she always sees this ghost BEHIND ME, it was following me I don’t even know what it wants from me.

In Philippine folklore, the dwende are little spirits, usually helpful and friendly, but when offended they can cause sickness and even death. They live in houses and occupy themselves by singing, making noise, and throwing sand and pebbles. Woke Up by Ghost

I was was posted to work in the Philippines in the early 90s. I still cannot say I believe in ghosts, but duing my stay there I had an experience that I cannot explain. There were many ghost stories circulating around those people at my work place. There was the story of the “white lady” who was supposedly killed by Japanese soldiers who cut off her head and buried it away from her body. What happened was she haunts the night searching for her head even until today. People said if you see her, tragedy will befall you within 24 hours. Another story is of the cigar-smoking man who haunted the abandoned third floor of a building that the Security Police had to guard. He was never seen but according to many, his presence can be felt by the scent of his cigar and the sound of a deep voice either laughing or murmuring.

Anyways, here’s my experience. In the early 90s when i was there, a large earthquake hit the Philippines. There was alot of damage done, especially near the Baguio City area. Many people died there, and Air Force personnel were deployed to aid in the search for survivors trapped in buildings and for bodies of those less fortunate. I was sent there to help out on temporary duty. The damage of the earthquake was still evidenced by crushed hotels. When we arrived, I was told to report for duty at 0600 hrs the following morning. I was rather upset about this, as I had not brought an alarm clockwith me, and I am not known for being an early-bird. My roommate and I were assigned to a cabin which had separate beds for the both of us. I asked my roommate to wake me up in the morning and proceeded to bed.

At 0500 hs, a Filipina lady was standing at the door to my room and shouting at me to wake up. She was telling me to wake up, it was time for me to go to work. I noticed she was muddy, and she was severely injured and bleeding profusely. She kept telling me to wake up, and I told her I was awake, but she was hurt and we needed to get her to a hospital, she needed medical attention. She told me it was too late for her, but not for me, so I had better get to work. I asked her what time it was, and she said it was 5 am. I thanked her and reached over to get my watch, which was on the table by my bed. Sure enough, the watch said 5 am. When I turned back to her, she was gone and my door was open. The weird thing is, this conversation did not even strike me as odd until I was in the shower! I didn’t tell anyone of my experience for a long time, but I felt it would fit in here.

My Grandfather’s Funeral

I remember there was this incident when my grandfather passed away. When my grandfather was alive, he would go and live in all of my relatives house. for example, 1 month at my aunt’s house, 1 month at my uncle’s house, then 1 month at my house. When he came over to stay at my house, he was already quite sick. And after a few weeks, he passed away. so my parents and relatives decided to hold the funeral at my void-deck since he passed away while it was his turn living at my place. he passed away peacefully at the hospital.

When the funeral was held at my void-deck, then one night at the beginning of the 7 days funeral (think it was the 2nd or 3rd day), me and my parents went upstairs to our house to rest for awhile before going downstairs again. me and my dad was in the masterbed room, he was telling me stories (i was small at that time), the bedroom door was closed as we had switched on the air-con. Mum was alone in the living room praying. then she told us that as she was praying, she heard footsteps, like someone was walking towards the kitchen. Then the next minute, she heard the cabinet open, and she heard someone making milo - my grandfather loved drinking milo. True enough, me and dad heard the cabinet opening, sudden we thought nothing of it because we thought it was mum.

Towards the end of the 7 days of the funeral, one night me, my dad and mum went upstairs to wash up. Dad and i finished washing up first, so we watched TV while waiting for mum to finish so we could all go downstairs together. then while i was watching TV, there’s this dark shadow of a person just walked pass the TV and flew out of the window. we could see the the shadow because the TV was very bright, and we did not on any other lights. the shape of the shadow looks exactly like my grandfather. I guess he was just saying one last goodbye to us.

A few decades ago, a certain area in the main building collapsed after a strong earthquake. Several lives perished. According to the old folks, the remains of those who died were not removed so the spirits keep on haunting the place up to this day.

Manila Film Center

The construction of the Manila Film Center was rushed to accommodate a film fest to be held on 1981. Engineers have overlooked the design and the structure collapsed when more than half of the infrastructure was already built. Less than 100 bodies were buried under the rubble.
It was believed that Imelda Marcos was so determined to beat the deadline that she did not want the bodies to be removed for it would take time. Instead, the bodies were buried by cement. A spirit quest, led by Tony Perez was also held in the area to free the disturbed spirits. Further evidences, though, proved that the bodies were exhumed from the rubble right after the accident.

Ozone Disco, Quezon City

In March 1996, Ozone Disco burned and more than 200 human bodies were charred. Faulty wiring was the culprit, the lack of fire exit and other standard safety measures made things worse.
Since then, residents from nearby areas report hearing screams of people coming from the former disco house.

Corregidor Island was one of the last lines of defense of the Philippines during the Second World War. The Japanese tore most infrastructures there.
Today, the island serves as a reminder of the Filipinos held their ground against the Japanese. Tourists from all over the world visit the island annually.
There are several reported activities heard by tourists who pass by the hospital ruins. They hear footsteps, rumblings of normal hospital activities, and wails of people. Shouts of people grimacing in pain can be heard around the bunker area. Similar sounds can also be hear inside the Malinta Tunnel – said to be the hiding area of hundreds of soldiers back then.
For adventure and thrill seekers, it is good to know that the place offers hotel accommodations.

Claret School, Quezon City
Claret School used to be a cemetery. A headless priest randomly manifests on the second floor. In 1997, a high school student jumped from the school’s fifth floor and is reported to manifest himself to several students.

University of Santo Tomas, Manila

The school is more than three centuries old. It is rich in history, artifacts, and ghost stories, as well. It has withstood the ravages of war and modernization.
Screams are often heard in the second and third floor of UST’s Main Building. Old-timers believe that several killings among the Spanish Friars had happened in the said area.
Central Philippine University, Iloilo City
American Missionaries founded Central Philippine University. During the Second World War, the Japanese forces brutally killed numerous foreign missionaries. The place became a makeshift brothel where the animalistic Japanese soldiers sodomized Filipinas.
Up to this day, cries and moans of poor victims are often heard at night. In the school’s football field a female ghost is said to join joggers in their exercise. The ghost is reported to strike up a conversation to fellow joggers, but will disappear once the person looks away.
The school’s Ruby Hall has several classrooms. Roving guards report that there are occasions that one of the rooms opens its lights without anybody switching it on. The guards have reported seeing silhouettes of elementals running around the classroom.
The next is Valentine Hall, named after Rev. Valentine, who was beheaded during the Second World War. The headless ghost of Rev. Valentine manifests on random nights.
In the same place, a ghost of a female student is said to haunt the women’s restroom – several female students since the early 70's have reported seeing her. The ghost usually manifests herself during lunchtime. She appears behind them while they are looking in the mirror. Classes have been interrupted because of screams from those who have seen the ghost!

Balete Drive, Quezon City

Balete Drive is a street located in New Manila, Quezon City. It is known for apparitions of a white lady and haunted houses which were built during the Spanish Era. Balete Tree, according to folklore, is a favorite place of elementals and wandering spirits. Other stories suggest that the white lady that often appears on the said street was a rape victim during the Japanese occupation. New Manila has an abundance of Balete Trees during the 1930s, thus its main avenue is named Balete Drive.

Loakan Road, Baguio City

With Baguio City Hall as reference point, Loakan Road connects to upper Session Road and stretches east of the city. It winds down to where the old Philippine National Railways Station was located. This area is now owned by GSIS.
Opposite this lot is Quezon Elementary School. As one passes the school, a hub separates Military Cut-Off Road and South Drive. The main gate of Camp John Hay is situated just right after the hub.
A tree on the middle of the road is said to be haunted – a White Lady appears at night prompting the drives to avoid them. Surprised, most drivers suffer an accident when the White Lady manifests.
The tree stood on the middle of the road for decades. Those who attempted to chop it was said to have suffered various severe illnesses.

Diplomat Hotel, Baguio City

The Diplomat Hotel in Baguio has a rich history. It used to be a seminary during the Spanish Occupation. During World War 2, several priests and nuns were brutally murdered by the Japanese – some of the victims were even beheaded! After World War 2, the seminary was sold and the infrastructure was converted into a hotel. Perhaps to cut the costs, the hotel owners decided to retain the original structure and old fixture. Dimly lit big rooms with king sized beds and a bible at the side table are some ingredients that make Diplomat Hotel creepy. Clerks, bellboys, and hotel guests, often complain of hearing someone wailing. The wails seem to emanate from different walls. The wails have different pitches, too. To make matters worse, the wailing sound can be heard even during daytime! Various stories of apparitions of a headless priest roaming the corridors and a silhouette carrying a head on a platter are shared and corroborated by guests from different parts of the world.

Incubus and Succubus:

Medieval legend claims that demons, both male and female, sexually prey on human beings. The male demon is known as an incubus and the female is the succubus. They generally prey upon the victim when they are sleeping, though it has been reported that females have been attacked while fully lucid. One such event was covered in the book and subsequent movie, The Entity.
There are variations of this sexual demonic legend. In Zanzibar, what is known as the "Popo Bawa" generally preys on men and only in their own beds. In the Chilo‚ Province of Chile, a wretched little dwarf, known as El Trauco, woos young naive women and then seduces them. Ịn Hungary, a Liderc is a demonic sexual predator that flies under the cover of darkness and will appear as a wispy apparition or a fiery light.
Any one of the above succubus' can be blamed for unexpected or unwanted pregnancies, especially in unmarried women, though one can imagine this might be a convenient fabrication to get out of unsavory rumors!
Some confuse the incubus with the legendary "Old Hag" syndrome but it is not. The Old Hag episode is usually restricted to a feeling of great pressure on the chest and not a ghostly sexual encounter. Another difference between the incubus/succubus encounter from the Old Hag is that the former is not always unpleasant while the Old Hag is mostly accompanied by a feeling of death, suffocation and just trying to survive.
Because the incubus and succubus are generally experienced during the sleep state or coming in and out of it, experts feel that it is an imaginary experience and not a real one, however, telling this to the person who has just gone through it, they find that hard to believe as it feels as real as intercourse itself. Who can say for certain if these events are real or imagined but until you've experienced yourself it's hard to determine or judge.
